The concept of data catalogs is one that’s becoming increasingly relevant to businesses. According to the McKinsey Global Institute, data-driven organizations are 19 times as likely to be profitable than businesses that aren’t focused on data. They’re also 23 times more likely to acquire customers and six times more likely to retain them.

- 31% of data catalog adopters are using data lake catalogs, 30% are relying on data warehouses, 20% are using cloud catalogs, and 19% are using enterprise data catalogs.
- When it comes to the type of data catalogs that are being considered for adoption, the enterprise data catalog is in the lead with 35% of respondents saying this is what they’re considering.
- Currently, data engineers are the primary users of data catalogs, but over the next two years, this is anticipated to move more in the direction of data executives which can include chief data officers and chief analytics officers.
